How do you set up and use an essential oil diffuser? Bonus Video!

We have had many customer enquiries regarding the proper use of essential oil diffusers. Today, we will go through step-by-step on how to use our water-based D:FUSE NZ diffusers and in our next blog we will go through the cleaning process and maintenance of diffusers.

There are many types of ultrasonic essential oil diffusers, ones that run on battery, ones that run via a USB port and ones that simply plug into the wall. The ones we have here at D:FUSE NZ are run via electricity which means you will need a power outlet. If you are based overseas and not in either New Zealand or Australia you may need an adapter that converts a NZ plug to your local plug type.

Fun FACT: When we first started D:FUSE NZ we went with the plug-in essential oil diffuser option as we had experienced better mist output and increased longevity of the diffuser compared to battery powered or USB powered diffusers.

Steps in using your essential oil diffuser:

1. Using the provided NZ/AU adapter, plug the diffuser into a power socket. Please do not use other adapters or plugs with different voltages as this may cause malfunction.

2. Add water to your ultrasonic diffuser. We like to use 150ml, however, feel free to use the amount you want. Each diffuser will have different water capacities. 150ml should last you 2-3 hours.

3. Add essential oils to the water. We like to use anywhere between 3-5 drops per 100ml of water in our diffuser. Of course, the amount varies between essential oils and the individual itself. Some oils have a stronger and more potent smell hence you may need less, others may have a weaker scent hence you would want a little more. Adjust to your preference. Please do not add any carrier oils to the water as this will clog up the ultrasonic plate and cause malfunction.

4. Cover with the lid provided and turn on the diffuser by pressing the MIST button. The timer can set to either 1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours or the ON (continuous) option. The ON option means the essential oil diffuser will run until there is very little water left and will turn itself off. This is a feature designed to increase safety of our diffusers. The colour of the LED light can be selected on the diffuser by pressing the LIGHT button, or can be simply left off as is (if you would prefer using your diffuser without any lights).

Step 5, there is no step five! You are ready to go! This is where the fun begins, experiment with different essential oils and blends. Do remember, if you have kids or pets around, keep essential oils in a safe place as they are very potent. If you do have pets and have the diffuser running, do check with your vet as there are certain essential oils that can irritate animals.

If you have any questions feel free to send us an email in the contacts tab and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Look out for our next blog where we will be looking into the cleaning and maintenance of essential oil diffusers!

Please note when using any essential oils:
Keep out of reach of children. Any essential oil may cause skin sensitivity. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medications or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician first. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas. Happy diffusing!
