We hope you are doing well and staying safe in your bubble.
We understand the lockdown can be a difficult time for many of us. So we would like to suggest the 5 best essential oils that can help you in a variety of ways during this challenging time.
Lavender
Lavender Essential Oil is reputed to be a versatile oil that can soothe your body and mind. With its calming and comforting floral scent, it is capable of reducing anxiety, stress and depression and also improves sleep quality. Diffusing the oil using a diffuser is a popular way of enjoying the benefits and aroma of the oil. You can also ease tension in your neck and shoulders by massaging with the oil. To make a massage oil, mix Lavender Essential Oil with carrier oil such as Jojoba Oil or Sweet Almond Oil (1 or 2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil per 10ml carrier oil). You can also find more information on Lavender Oil here.
Bergamot
Bergamot Essential Oil has a fresh citrus and sweet floral aroma. This can be used not only for relaxation but also for refreshing your mind. The oil builds confidence on top of helping to reduce muscle tension, headaches, stress and negative emotions. A study shows that the Bergamot aroma could also help us strengthen our immune system.
May Chang
May Chang Essential Oil is also known as Litsea Cubeba. It has a refreshing, sweet citrus and fruity aroma which blends well with many other essential oils. It has been shown that it can reduce anxiety and depression, and improve sleep quality. May Chang Oil is good for a bath as well as diffusing. Combine 3 to 12 drops of May Chang essential oil in a tablespoon (15ml) of carrier oil first and add it to your bath. If you don’t have a bath tub at home, just drop a few drops of the essential oil on your shower stall wall and enjoy the aroma and benefits of the oil.
Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus (Radiata) Essential Oil has a crisp and clean aroma with a hint of citrus and floral. Its cooling scent of the oil is known to relieve mental exhaustion and fatigue. If you diffuse the oil in your room, it can work as an air cleanser, too. The oil is also known to boost the immune system and be antiviral. When you need to go out, put a drop of Eucalyptus Essential Oil on the outside of your face mask five or 10 minutes before wearing the mask. (If you have sensitive skin, have a facial tissue inside of the mask so that the essential oil is more indirect.)
Grapefruit
Grapefruit Essential Oil carries an energising and fresh aroma. It lifts positive moods and reduces stress. It is highly effective if you use it in the morning as you can have a fresh start of the day. It is also beneficial if it is used for a massage; it works not only for reducing stress and anxiety but also for helping maintain smooth looking skin. Thanks to the natural antimicrobial and antibacterial properties contained in the Grapefruit Oil, the oil can also be used for cleaning. Add 10 to 15 drops of the oil to 240ml of water and 120ml of white vinegar to make a natural alternative for a cleaning detergent. You won’t need to worry about any harmful chemicals ending up in our oceans. This recipe is going to be useful if you would like to give a good clean to your house during lockdown.
*Using essential oils may cause skin sensitivity. Always do a patch test prior to using. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medications or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician first. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas. If you use essential oils made from citrus fruits, avoid sunlight or UV rays for up to 24 hours after applying the product.
